Beijing, March 21, 2026 — The TG1-550 550kV bypass trigger gap, developed for explosion-proof protection of ultra-high voltage converter transformers, has passed a national-level new product technology appraisal. Recognized as a global first with fully independent intellectual property rights, the product achieves world-leading overall performance.
The appraisal, organized by the China Machinery Industry Federation, brought together over 30 industry experts from leading institutions including State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, Tsinghua University, and Xi’an Jiaotong University. The committee conducted rigorous evaluations on technical parameters, operational stability, and application potential.

Key capabilities:

✔Reliable triggering within 1 ms at 7 kV gap voltage
✔Rapid insulation recovery after six 63 kA/80 ms current tests
✔Independent dual-redundant high-reliability fast control system
Already deployed at the Gusu Ultra-HVDC Converter Station, the system enables fault transfer within 7 ms in the event of severe internal grounding faults, extinguishing oil arc explosions and preventing secondary disasters. The TG1-550 provides a critical defense layer for ultra-HVDC transmission systems, marking a significant advancement in grid safety.
